More Green Schools

More and more schools are joining the greenschools campaign. To inspire other students and school groups to do the same, we’d like to feature this video:

Now, here’s an even better news. One of the country’s oldest existing educational association, the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) links up with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in an extensive information, education and communication campaign to protect the environment.

A memorandum of agreement between DENR and PACU was signed last January 24, 2008, and DENR Secretary Atienza underscored the need to educate the young in the various thrusts of the DENR in safeguarding our natural wealth.

He said, to quote, “The DENR’s thrust this year is strengthening information, education and communication among the youth as well as other stakeholders. Curbing pollution and the abuse of our natural wealth is a task that concerns the next generation and the DENR is committed to empowering our people, especially the youth, to take charge in protecting our environment.”

Under the agreement, PACU with its 158 members of private colleges and universities and two million students nationwide vows to undertake extensive advocacy among its member-colleges and universities to conduct regular activities on environmental protection awareness, which includes the production of information materials in their respective schools. PACU will also advocate among its member schools to implement environmental laws, rules and regulations to promote the cause of environmental protection.

The DENR, on the other hand, will assist PACU officials in the conduct of environment-related activities, provide technical assistance and provide various information materials to its member-colleges and universities.

Schools present in the signing were board directors of PACU, representing the University of Perpetual Help System, Asian Development College of Tacloban City, Dr. Josefa Paloma College, Siargao Institute of Technology, Naga Colleges Foundation, Angeles University Foundation, Olivares College and Jose Rizal University.
