Battle of the Bands Finalists

Lovin’ the bands who got passion for music, passion for the environment, and passion for all.

Of the many bands who got screened for the Not Cool to be Co2l, Baga’t Hangin Musikahan Battle of the Bands 2008, only eight made the cut. The bands will be performing live at the SM North EDSA Activity Center this Sunday, June 29, 2008 (2pm), in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.

Zigen

Amidst the squabbling of existence comes a group destined to play as an alternative rock band, Zigen. Members include Mark Nuñez (bassist, vocals), Christene Nuñez (drummer/vocals), Anne Nuñez (bassist, vocals), and Kristel Dimarucut (keyboard/guitar/vocals). This God-fearing band seeks to express its passion to strengthen its listeners belief and love of one’s self, his culture, his country, his concern and respect for Mother Nature, and most importantly, be aware of the truth behind his everyday existence.

Kwadro

Kwadro Band is a four-man rock and roll band based in Valenzuela City. Members include Dante Lazalista (vocals), Charlo Luis Flores (bass), Chuck Menor (drums), and Francis Pitas (guitars). Kwadro band creates a sound that combines elements of rock and roll, classic rock, blues, and alternative rock. The band is doing group arrangements for original and cover types of music. With a collaboration like that, you can expect a musically powerful and emotionally engaging sound from Kwadro band.

Yabmatzi

Yabmatzi started in the middle of 2005, consist of Francis Reynon (lead guitar), Arjay Joson (bass), Jake Jacob (rhythm guitar), Marlon Redoblado (vocalist). The band name Yabmatzi is a glamourized “istambay” spelled backwards. The band wants their audience and listeners to relate to their music, and influence them in a good way.

Kadangyan

No other band in the history of Philippine music has made such a strong impact in the scene within the past decade as much as Kadangyan has. Composed of Bhava Mitra (vocals and strings), Jean Govinda (main percussion), Agit (bass), Bhakta Raj (detailed percussion), and Saryu (drums). Kadangyan is a Cordilleran term which literally means “rich”, but the group means rich inside and rich in culture.

Vertuso

Vertuso started some eight years back in 2000, and after members coming and going, the band is now steady with members Aj Recto (bass), Mel Roman (drums), Niq Caidic (vocals), and Don Cabayan (guitar).

Verses

Driven by faith to produce music — this is Verses. Members include RD Marata (guitarist, band leader), RX Reyes (bassist), JD Dino (vocals), Zi Acedera (drums), and Ry Banot (rhythm guitar). The band’s music reflects their attitude towards life, and was deliberately written to be interpreted in various ways. It is as intellectual and soothing as it is — a surprising mix resulting to an alternative to the alternative rock genre that we already know.

Syalam

Syalam was formed on January 2006 as a side project band to most of its members. Members include Jamir Adiong (vocals, guitar), O’neil Albaña (drums, percussion), AJ Elazegui (percussion), Jaff Husin (lead guitar), and Bong Pacete (bass). Syalam is Malays spelled backwards, the origin of most Asians, particularly Filipinos. Their music is a fusion of blues, world music, reggae, funk, and jazz. It’s a musical trip that breaks all age, race, and music barriers… It does not discriminate.. the way music is meant to be.

Black Dynamic

Black Dynamic is a rock and roll band from Parañaque City, members of which include Andy Ronoco (vocalist), Jeffrey Robiego (guitarist), Cyril Pama (Bassist), Jazzer Bautista (keyboardist), and PJ Pangan (drummer).

The event is organized by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Lung Center of the Philippines, Energy and Clean Air Project of USAID, Dimitri Productions, in cooperation with SM North EDSA and GMA Kapuso Network. Sponsors also include PLDT Landline Plus and Nestle Philippines.
