Five Metro Manila schools have been chosen as partners in the project, “Mainstreaming Ecological Solid Waste Management in the Philippine Educational Systemâ€: Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Integrated School in Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila; Eulogio Rodriguez Vocational High School in Nagtahan, Manila; Isaac Lopez Integrated School in Vergara, Mandaluyong City; Bonifacio Javier National High School in Barangka Drive, Mandaluyong City; and Rizal Experimental Pilot School for Cottage Industries in Pasig City.
These schools, serving as pilot sites, have been chosen based on their proximity to Pasig River, population, ecological solid waste management program, school organization, and the school administration’s receptiveness in implementing the project. Twenty students from each school, totaling to a hundred, have been capacitated as trainors who would be able to teach their fellow students on ecological solid waste management.
The Project is also being replicated by the LGUs in Nueva Viscaya, Bulacan, and Sorsogon, through the assistance of the DENR and the private sector.
“Mainstreaming Ecological Solid Waste Management in the Philippine Educational System†is a program of the NSWMC and implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Environmental Management Bureau – National Solid Waste Management Commission Secretariat (EMB-NSWMCS), with the United Nations Development Programme, and in partnership with schools, local government units (LGUs), community, and the media .
