Environmental Robots at the World Robotics Olympiad

While other children are busy playing with rc helicopters, a few others are busy tinkering with robots with a vision to save the Earth.

These children from Grace Christian Elementary School had a vision of robots that would take care of our environment. They entered it in the World Robotics Olympiad in Yokohama, Japan, under the theme, “Saving Global Environment” — and they won silver, beating over 20 other entries! Other winners are Malaysia, Taiwan, and South Korea.

I saw it in GMA news, with one of the kids, Joseph Aldrin Chua, saying “we’re supposed to engineer a better world - to stop global warming, to stop air pollution.” So with that, they developed the “Greenwhiz Community”, which consists of three areas — the aerial area with the hydrogen powered car; the industrial area where “ice” are manufactured; and the nature area (a robot polices the forest against loggers). The other kid is Edrich Chua, and their coach is Engr. Warren Ongpe.

Congratulations!

Thank you for encouraging school age children to think creatively about improving the planet. I can not think of anything more important. These children will be growing up quickly and will be helping society to make a better world. This is excellent what you are publicizing and supporting.

I agree, sir. It’s these children who would eventually replace us, cause, we cant be alive forever.

We need to prepare them while their young. Know what, im at my happiest whenever I do lectures for kids, and they seem to enjoy learning about our environment. What I teach may be very basic, but it’s very fulfilling.

We need to encourage our kids.
