The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) convened a forum-workshop on the implementation of Republic Act No. 9512, otherwise known as the Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, at the Hotel Stotsenberg in Clarkfield, Pampanga on July 30-31, 2009.
DENR Secretary Lito Atienza said the forum is a venue for an exchange of ideas among the various sectors of society, including the local government units, on how best to implement the environmental education law in light of the growing need for public participation in addressing pressing environmental problems in the country.
“Information is power. Positive changes in our environment will only take place with an efficient and effective education campaign. This event will provide a credible vehicle for constructive devices for the direct expression of the different sectors of our society as to how we should drive, and unite, to ensure that we will have a better Philippines – environment-wise,” Atienza said.
Among the topics discussed on the two-day program include the “Status of Implementation of the National and the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plans, and the Challenges and Commitments to Implement RA 9512” with speakers from the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Information Agency, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the civil society counterpart Council for Sustainable Development; and “Monitoring and Evaluation of the Roadmap to RA 9512” by the University of the Philippines’ National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development.
The workshop participants also drew up the road map on the RA 9512 implementation for 2009-2014, including the action commitments of the different sectors. Available environmental education resource materials from all member institutions to the Inter-Agency Committee on Environmental Education, and other participating institutions were also showcased. A resolution was also drawn which capped the event.
Am currently uploading the papers on the web.. Will update when they’re up already on the official site (I think I would have to make a direct link from there). The socials also proved to be time well-spent.. Had fun dancing. Hehe. There was work, but there’s also fun… everybody’s united, no need to call some lawyer, but seriously, the conference proved that there are no boundaries and no limits for people who truly want to better our environment.
Salamat po muli. 🙂
