Cleaning Up Boracay

31 October 2009 No Comment

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will soon file administrative and criminal charges against businesses polluting Boracay.

“I have a standing order to our people to go after violators, whoever gets hurt… anyone proven to have violated the laws will go to jail.” — DENR Secretary Jose L. Atienza

… and the list is being expected by Secretary Atienza within the first week of November, with data coming from the Environmental Management Bureau Regional Office in Iloilo City. The Secretary also ordered EMB and the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) to check on reports that a “resort has been constructed on top of coral reefs”. Whaaaat?!? OMG.

The environment should never be sacrificed for profit. Business owners should put in mind, sustainable development, that’s being able to balance gains and the nature’s well-being… especially in Boracay, since it’s main “capital” is the natural beauty of the locale. No other business gifts can top that.
