More Green Jobs this 2010
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources reports that there will at least be 26,848 jobs and livelihood opportunities that “will be available in the land, mining, and forestry services”. This will be for the first half of the year. I think that’s putting in consideration the coming election which would affect the other six months of 2010.
Secretary Eleazar Quinto is reportedly all optimistic saying it’s a sign that the economy is getting stronger.
Anyway, here’s some parts of the report worth quoting…
“Quinto attributed the new employment opportunities in the mining sector to the government’s performance in attracting new investments to be poured in the country’s mining industry which hopes to attract as much as US$10 billion to $12 billion by 2013. Around 26,082 emergency job opportunities have been opened in the mining sector between 2004 and 2009.
Around US$450 million were poured in during the last semester of 2009, on top of the US$2.4 billion that had been invested between 2009’s 1st semester to year 2004, when the government embarked on revitalizing the investment climate for the country’s mining industry.
In the forestry sector, Quinto said that around 11,578 livelihood opportunities will be opened up to the same number of upland families being hired by the DENR under its reforestation program.”
The DENR and its Bureaus employed thousands of people last year, called “green workers” — (no, not asecs, doctors, Plano dentists, or others, but emergency employment like lab assistants, street sweepers, etc) under its Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP). It was initiated by then Secretary Atienza, in support of GMA’s quest to create 10 million jobs for Pinoys.
