Pinoy Green Police

15 January 2010 One Comment

“I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?” – Robert Redford

Has anyone ever heard of a green police?

Apparently, there is a group on New York City’s Department of Environmental Conservation — it’s a team of about twenty officers, and they call themselves the “green police”. They are the ones who enforce legislation on all matters concerning the environment — and issue citations to those who violate the laws.

Imagine you’re driving, and then getting pulled over by cops… not because of speeding… texting while driving… nor beating the red light… but because you drive a smoke belching vehicle. Cool right? Solves the air pollution along EDSA (if ever we’ll have people like them in the Philippines).

Not that we dont have any. As a matter of fact, we have people from the Land Transportation Office who even have intensified their campaign against smoke belching… and they are doing their jobs.

I really feel that having green police is necessary — you know, men and women whose jobs would be just to “protect” the environment by “policing” the people. These select people have to be sent to a special green school, where they will learn not just the laws, but also the basics about the environment — what are harmful, what are not…

Now, how about maintaining a platoon of Pinoy green policemen?

Or maybe, we could all just be green cops.
