Have Mercy on Us

24 January 2010 No Comment

This has something to do with my previous blog entry… yes, the one regarding the “green” song competition we had in high school. I shared that we entered, I have forgotten who penned our song, maybe it was my friend, Ernina Domingo (she was our leader then), but it goes like this:

“Noong unang panahon kay ganda pa ng ating paligid.
(This place used to be so beautiful)
Malalaki ang puno at malinis ang tubig.
(Tall trees and clear waters)
Tingnan mo’ng ginawa mo kaibigan…
(Look what you’ve done, my friend)
Tingnan mo’ng ginawa mo sa ating kapaligiran.
(Look what you’ve done to our environment)
Maawa naman kayo sa amin.
(Have mercy on us)
Maawa naman kayo sa amin.
(Have mercy on us)

Maawa naman kayo sa amin
(Have mercy on us)
pati na sa kalikasan natin
(and on our environment too)
Pagandahin nating muli ang ating kapaligiran.
(Let’s bring back its beauty)
Kung gusto niyong malaman ninyo
(If you want to know)
Kagandahan ng mundo’y isaayos natin
(Let’s fix our planet)
Sino pa bang magtutulungan
(Who else would help each other)
Kundi tayong mga kabataan…
(But us, children)
Kundi tayong mga kabataan!
(But us, children!)”

Believe it or not but I still know the melody…

Funny how it seems like yesterday. We have different lives now, all of us who know that song — Ernina is now a doctor, the others are housewives, some have jobs in finance, I’m now what I am. We’re no longer kids but I would like to think we are all doing our share to help “beautify” our planet again.
