Eco Trekking with the Restore Green Movement
I really admire this one friend of mine, Mr. Nelson Enojo. His dedication to protecting the environment is really commendable — he brings people together in their area, young and old, through his group, the Restore Green Movement (I blogged about the group a long time ago).
They hold a lot of events — from tree-planting activities to coastal clean-ups. Now, they have ventured into their own “eco-friendly school awards”, I believe with a vision that whichever school wins would compete to the National Awards (or maybe so that all schools in their locale will act and eventually prove worthy of joining the National Competition!).
Anyway, they have this activity now called “Southern Leyte EcoTrekkers”, and here’s their call:
“Traveling the usual paved road going to Maasin City Eco Park at barangay Danao would take a motorize vehicle about 30 minutes or more starting from our Cathedral. Others said it will take them an hour.
Farmers & residents of barangay Bogo where the 64 ha. reforestation is located, suggest a much shorter route to reach our City Park.
Any of you have not been there, Let’s explore!
It is also a long stretch of empty barren land about 160 ha.
Maasin City Park is a 320 ha. more or less refo project. If we can connect this area for another reforestation site, therefore, 64 + 320 + 160 total new forest.
At the foot of these mountains is the canturing river, one of the city’s major water ways.
Now, Do Something.”
So to all long distance movers around the area who wanna do something really worthwhile, here’s your chance. Travel the distance and help reforest Maasin City Park.
The group has a facebook page, just search “Restore Green Movement”.
