No Freons Allowed
Importers of freon will be needing wrinkle creams for this one problem of theirs — the country will be banning its importation starting next year. Finally!
This move of the government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Bureau of Customs, is in line with the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and the National CFC Phase-out Plan (which is being implemented by the Philippine Ozone Desk).
This is because freon, as well as other chemicals, damages the ozone layer, making it thinner, which protects us humans, and the other inhabitants of the earth.
Included in the banned list of CFCs are CFC 11, CFC 12, CFC 13, CFC 113, CFC 114, CFC 115 and R 502. Last year, the country’s cfc importation and consumption has dipped to 169 metric tons, from the 3,382 metric tons in 1995.
