In celebration of International Ozone Month this September 2008, the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) “ through the National CFC Phase-out Plan Project Management Unit (NCPP-PMU) of the EMB Philippine Ozone Desk” is set to hold the “Save the Ozone Layer Fun Run Atbp 2008″ on 26 September 2008, 6:30 am, at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

In cooperation with M-Vision Business Solutions, Exhibits Asia, NGOs and supporting companies, the event seeks to raise public awareness on the need to protect the Earth’s precious Ozone Layer.

Around 300 environmentalists, runners, DENR officials and employees, partner government agencies and the private sector are expected to join the event. Invited guest speakers include Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista, top DENR and DepEd officials and World Bank representatives, among others.

The Ozone layer acts like a protective layer in the earth’s stratosphere against the harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Ozone-depleting substances such as CFCs or Freon contribute to the continuing depletion of the layer. The Philippines — being a signatory in the international parties’ agreement Montreal Protocol — seeks the phase-out of CFCs and Freon in the country by the year 2010.

Registration is presently ongoing and the registration fee is P100. Runners and sports buffs interested in joining may get registration forms c/o Chee-Anne Guzman or Beng Pausing at the DENR Philippine Ozone Desk/NCPP Project Management Unit, DENR Compound, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Tel. Nos. 928-4578, 928-4589 or 426-4338. Interested participants may also send an email containing the following: Full Name, Age, Gender, company or school, email address, and mobile number to ncpp-pmu@yahoo.com.

Participating government agencies and sponsors include DOTC-LTO, DOLE-TESDA, DTI-BPS,/BTNCP/BIS, DOH-BFAD, LBP, among others.

This year, the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) provides an excellent venue for all communicators (advertsiers, media, marketing people, even bloggers) to learn to think green, and be green.

Here is an open invitation from the PRSP:

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is time to cast your lot on our planet and the future generations. It is time to show that you really care.

Join us at the 15th National Public Relations Congress on September 16-17, 2008 at the Grand Ballroom of InterContinental Manila in Makati City for the most informative discussions on public relations, environmental protection and corporate governance.

This year, the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) goes green and global as internationally renowned PR practitioners and award-winning environmental advocates share “for the first time” one stage in Manila.

With the theme “People. Planet. Partnerships. “, learn how you can sustain meaningful relationships and advance sustainable development from keynote speaker Chris Graves, president and CEO of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide/Asia Pacific and 2007 PR Professional of the Year (Asia Pacific PR Awards) and from 14 other speakers of 11 remarkable plenary sessions.

They include Ambassador Alistair Bell MacDonald of the European Commission to the Philippines; Von Hernandez of Greenpeace Southeast Asia; Michael Aw of OceanENvironment Australia; former DENR Secretary Bebet Gozun of Earth Day Network-Philippines ; Lory Tan of WWF-Philippines; Ed Chua of Philippine Business for the Environment; and Gina Lopez of ABS-CBN Foundation.

PRSP is the premier organization for public relations professionals in the Philippines. Now on its 51st year, PRSP continues to empower its members through various projects promoting dynamism and creativity in the profession — the most important of which is the annual Public Relations Congress within the PR Month of September.

Call the PRSP secretariat at 638-0010, 0917-8984750 or 0928-2976081, email prsociety@prsp. ph or prsociety.prsp@ yahoo.com or log on to www.prsp.ph for details.

Let’s act now. Sign up and save the world.

Very truly yours,

* Back in college, I was a member of the Public Relations Students Society of the Philippines, more so since my professor’s then the PRSP President (Sir Roel Ramirez, APR). PRSP has always been at the forefront of everything that’s “hot”, cause I remember that it was from a PRSP congress that I first heard about the power of the internet (e-commerce on the side).
